Kumbhalgarh, Rajasthan Tourism

Another one of the little known destinations in Rajasthan, Kumbhalgarh allows you to take in its charms at your own gentle pace. The kingdom of Kumbhalgarh was part of the vast territories of Rana Kumbha, who famously built dozens of forts and palaces across Rajasthan. Located 6,233 feet over sea level, Kumbhalgarh is known primarily for its huge fort. Apart from that, there is not much to see in the town itself. But the huge fort is large enough to take the resourceful traveler days to explore.

Attractions

Kumbhalgarh Fort

It is a matter of wonder that more visitors do not come to the town, for the fort has its tales to tell. The massive fort, standing on the edge of a sheer cliff, was inaccessible to enemies. During its 700-year long existence, the fort has been captured just once, and not through a fair fight at that. Legend has it that the attackers had to poison the water supply of the fort to force its defendants to surrender.

Kumbhalgarh

Kumbhalgarh Fort does not have the light, carefree feel of the palaces and forts in other parts of Rajasthan. Because it was meant to defend inhabitants against repeated attacks, everything about the fort is utilitarian, and very little effort is put into ornamentation. The royal chambers are bare and ordinary, though ingeniously design to thwart enemy attacks.

Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary

You can visit the local sanctuary to see crocodiles and a variety of birds. Visitors can take a guided jeep tour through the crocodile farm and woods. The more adventurous visitors opt for a horse safari.
